Moco Museum Amsterdam: tickets and how to visit
Banksy, Warhol, Basquiat and Kusama in a historic villa on Museumplein. Choose your ticket and plan a short, colourful visit.
In short
- The Moco Museum is a museum of modern and contemporary art in a villa on Museumplein, a short walk from the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum. The entry ticket is for a time slot, so check the time you pick when you book.
- You can choose an entry ticket with an audio guide, a ticket with a one-hour canal cruise, or a ticket with the Heineken Experience.
- Expect more than 100 artworks by over 35 artists. Banksy, Warhol, Basquiat, Keith Haring, Yayoi Kusama, Damien Hirst and KAWS are among the featured names, and the works on show change over time.
- Plan about an hour: that makes Moco an easy stop between two bigger museums.
A villa from 1904 on Museumplein
Moco lives in Villa Alsberg, a townhouse designed in 1904 by Eduard Cuypers, the nephew of Pierre Cuypers, for the banker Siegmund Alsberg. It was the first private home on Museumplein, and it stayed a home until 1939.
The museum opened in April 2016, with works by Banksy and Warhol on the walls.
Street art next to pop art
Banksy is among the featured artists, and the walls have also shown Warhol, Basquiat, KAWS, Kusama, Hirst and Lichtenstein. The galleries mix paintings, sculptures, installations and digital and immersive art, so the visit feels more like a walk through a contemporary art show than a classic museum.
Which works are on view changes with time, so see it as a taste of the artists rather than a fixed list.
